In the individual time trial, the decision about the overall victory was often made. As with all individual time trials, the start is in reverse order. The last person in the standings goes first and the leader in the standings goes last. The race starts in front of the town hall, then the route leads one kilometer through the village and further along a torrent into the Talbach Gorge. Partly the route takes place on single trails but also on easy to drive paths. The last kilometer to the 1770 meter high Schafalm, the road leads over open terrain with a view of the destination. The last 500 meters are extremely steep, but the cheers from the many spectators make you forget the pain. The panoramic view from the terrace of the opposite mountain range with the Dachstein is breathtaking.
